My introduction to Christian Science...

My introduction to Christian Science came while I was in college. I had visited many churches in an attempt to find one that taught what I could accept without reservation. Just before my graduation I timidly asked a fellow student, who was a Christian Scientist, if I might visit her church with her. During the service a wonderful light, which will never be forgotten, dawned in my thought, although only the Bible readings held any meaning for me. Later the revelation of God as taught in Science completely rewarded my search.

From the many proofs of Love's ever-presence in my experience, there are two which I recall as outstanding in simplicity. Once while traveling at night by bus I became quite sleepy. Around four o'clock in the morning I began to doze. Suddenly I was wide awake and though without any fear, I felt led to do some prayerful work. I declared that "in him [God] we live, and move, and have our being" (Acts 17:28); that man can never be removed from this loving, all-encompassing presence. A statement from that week's Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly came clearly to me, "The harmony and immortality of man are intact" (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p.521).

We were in the mountains, where there was a heavy fog, and as we made our way around a curve our bus came immediately behind a stalled truck. How we avoided striking it I do not know. As the bus pulled around it. we suddenly faced another truck coming directly and speedily toward us. Passing appeared impossible, but it was accomplished. Our driver was quite shaken and spoke to me of his fear that we might yet meet with disaster that night. Leaning forward and speaking firmly, I assured him we need have no fear for our safety. The morning dawned, and our journey was completed in safety.
