PUTTING GOD FIRST

[Of Special Interest to Children]

Donovan's mother sent him to the Christian Science Sunday School to learn about the Truth-cure. He learned that the Truth-cure is Christian Science and that the Christian Scientist expresses Love by putting God first and loving his neighbor as himself.

The Sunday School teacher explained to the children that one of the names for God is Love. She said that they were all God's children and that they could express Love just as a sunbeam reflects the sun and shines into the darkest corner, lighting it up. The children were taught that one way they could put God first was by obeying the two great commandments of Jesus (Matt.22:37,39): "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind," and, "Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself."

The children learned that the meaning of obedience in class and also at home was loving God. The way for them to be obedient was to keep their thinking free from anger and selfishness and to stay close to God.
