In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures"...

In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mary Baker Eddy tells us (p. 428), "To divest thought of false trusts and material evidences in order that the spiritual facts of being may appear,—this is the great attainment by means of which we shall sweep away the false and give place to the true." Since first I saw the feasibility of this rule and began its practice, my progress in striving to build a firm foundation in harmony and to gain a better knowledge of God and man has been continuous.

As the power of Truth has been utilized, and as thought and action have been closely watched to see that old habits were not mechanically repeated, spiritual illumination has come to consciousness. Trust in God, love of good, and freedom of thought have brought increased harmony to mind and body.

Human needs of greater and lesser import have been constantly met as thought has been divested of a false sense of responsibility, allowing God to govern. As an example, at one time both a position and a suitable home were offered me without any human footsteps on my part. Again, when much was demanded of me in mental and physical strength and endurance I was sustained by the command of Christ Jesus (Matt. 5:41), "Whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain." The need of an arch support was overcome by my maintaining a firm stand with "the scientific statement of being" (Science and Health, p. 468) and steadfastly refusing to give support to error in any form presented. Through loving help in Christian Science a painful obstruction in the eye was eliminated as thought was divested of materiality and filled with the truths of real substance.
