As a child I often asked my mother why the sick were not healed now as in Jesus' time. The answers which she gave did not satisfy me.

When I grew into womanhood my health began to fail, and I became an almost constant sufferer. Three doctors intimated that I had tuberculosis. As I had lost two sisters and four aunts with this condition, discouragement began to control me. During one of my most miserable days a friend came to visit me. Noticing what an unhappy picture I presented, she asked why I did not try Christian Science. With only a few words of explanation she soon convinced me of its efficacy, and in simple, childlike faith I arranged to see a practitioner.

I shall never forget the sweet, smiling face that greeted me as I entered her peaceful and beautiful home, which seemed a dwelling place of love. She listened attentively to the tale of woe and suffering I poured out to her while in tears. Finally I asked if she thought she could help me, expecting her to say that had I come sooner she might have helped me, but that I had waited until it was too late. Instead, she immediately told me that I would be helped. Then she gave me a treatment.
