"YE ARE THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD"

Ushers in Churches of Christ, Scientist, can derive much inspiration for their work from Jesus' words (Matt. 5:14), "Ye are the light of the world." A gracious smile, a welcoming word, an expressed hope that the visitor will return to our services, may light the way for many a guest.

During his conversation with the woman of Samaria, Jesus made this wonderful promise (John 4:14): "Whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life." Christian Science is that well of everlasting life. When we give generously enough of our understanding of everlasting Life—let the light of Christ shine in daily living—our churches will fulfill their heaven-bestowed mission.

Mary Baker Eddy in a letter to the ushers of The Mother Church says (The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 352), "I thank you not only for your tender letter to me, but for ushering into our church the hearers and the doers of God's Word." Mrs. Eddy knew that the Word of God as read in our services blesses and heals impartially.
