THE IMPORTANCE OF RIGHT REASONING

In his parable of the two houses, one—build on the sand—which could not withstand the winds and storm, and the other—built on the rock—which remained firm despite the tempest's force, Christ Jesus illustrated the disastrous effect of uncertain thinking based on shifting material beliefs. He also showed the harmonious results of positive right thinking based on scientific reasoning and spiritual understanding. Again, in reply to his disciples' question when they had failed to heal the lunatic boy, Jesus showed that something more than mere belief or blind faith is needed to heal the sick.

Although Mary Baker Eddy discovered the divine Principle of Mind-healing in the year 1866, it was not until 1875 that she published the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." In speaking of her experience, she says (ibid., p. 109), "I knew the Principle of all harmonious Mind-action to be God, and that cures were produced in primitive Christian healing by holy, uplifting faith; but I must know the Science of this healing, and I won my way to absolute conclusions through divine revelation, reason, and demonstration." Christian Science comes to all those who are ready for its healing message as a fresh unfoldment, for each individual finds and proves for himself, through "revelation, reason, and demonstration," the truth of every rule and statement in the textbook.

The writer has found that this thought when presented to Sunday School pupils, especially in the older groups, has brought new impetus to the study and demonstration of the truths contained in our beloved Leader's writings.
