Gratitude urges me to write this...

Gratitude urges me to write this testimony of a healing which came to me through the understanding of God's ever-presence. Upon arising one morning I discovered that one eye was paralyzed. The eyelid also was affected and remained in a drooping position over the eye. I immediately declared the truth, but a sense of fear came over me. Then these words from James came to me (1:17): "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning."

Although I rejoiced that this physical condition did not come from God, the healing was slow, and for a month there was not much progress made. One night in my haste to answer the telephone I ran into a door and broke one of my toes. The pain was severe, but I went back to bed, and after praying for a while I fell asleep. The next morning my foot was swollen to the ankle, and I could put on neither shoes nor house slippers.

Later that morning, while I was reading the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly, a friend came in. She was not a Christian Scientist, and she suggested that I visit a doctor or call one to my home, as otherwise I might lose not only my eye but also my foot. I very lovingly pointed out to this friend that the problem was mine to work out as I felt led to do. From that moment on I knew that I would cling to Truth closer than ever.
