LETTERS TO THE PRESS FROM CHRISTIAN SCIENCE COMMITTEES ON PUBLICATION

Evening Post

Evening Post Jersey, Channel Islands England

An interesting letter ... appears in the Post of [a recent date] in which [the writer] makes very kindly references to The Christian Science Monitor. I should be grateful, however, if you will allow me to point out certain inaccuracies with regard to the teachings of Christian Science. ...

Christian Science does not teach that sickness is only imagination. It teaches that sickness is very real to human belief, but can be overcome by the understanding and application of the truth as stated in the first chapter of Genesis [verse 31], where we are told that "God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good." The physical healing of Christian Science results, as in Jesus' time, from a realization that good contains no element of evil. Christian Scientists wish individuals to have the utmost freedom to think as they wish, and the following quotation from the pen of Mary Baker Eddy, as found in the Preface to "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" [p. xii], gives a clear view of her sentiments: "In the spirit of Christ's charity,—as one who 'hopeth all things, endureth all things,' and is joyful to bear consolation to the sorrowing and healing to the sick,—she commits these pages to honest seekers for Truth."
