The Healing Efficacy of Christian Science

When John the Baptist sent two of his disciples to Jesus to ask him (Luke 7:20), "Art thou he that should come?" Jesus answered, "Go your way, and tell John what things ye have seen and heard: how that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, to the poor the gospel is preached." In commenting on this, Mary Baker Eddy says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (pp. 131, 132), "In reply to John's inquiry, 'Art thou he that should come,' Jesus returned an affirmative reply, recounting his works instead of referring to his doctrine, confident that this exhibition of the divine power to heal would fully answer the question."

Today the question, "Has the Science of Christ come?" is answered by the recounting of many mighty works of healing and regeneration. Testimony meetings and publication of carefully verified testimonies are answering this question for mankind.

I wish you could see with me the flood of splendid testimonies which comes into The Christian Science Publishing Society each year. It has been my privilege for over twenty years to have had some part in handling these messages of gratitude. They are, however, but a small cross section of the splendid healing work which is going on all over the world. Only during the war years was there any noticeable letup in the number of testimonies received. The year 1948 brought the largest number of verified testimonies ever recorded in any one year.
