About seven years ago I began...

About seven years ago I began the study of Christian Science by reading Dr. Lyman P. Powell's biography of Mary Baker Eddy. I had a bitter prejudice against our Leader and her work, but before I finished the biography I purchased a copy of her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," and began to attend the services of the branch church in our city. The prejudice was gone, and I have gained a steadily growing appreciation of our Leader and her work as Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science.

Many days were filled with questions, doubt, and opposition, and I cannot express sufficiently my gratitude for the patient, careful guidance of the student to whom I took my early questions.

I know Christian Science heals, not only ills of the flesh which materia medica claims to alleviate or cure, but also other inharmonious conditions, including those which medicine does not attempt to cure and which psychiatry regards and often encourages as inevitable conditions of human life. I have been healed by the truths learned in Christian Science of colds, headaches, constipation, leg and stomach cramps, fever, painfully stiff joints, and a sprained ankle.
