Der Weinlaender

There appeared in the Weinlaender recently an article which referred to Christian Science.

The author of the article thinks that no fractures, goiters, and so forth could be healed through Christian Science; but he is mistaken, as through it functional, organic, and chronic, as well as acute, diseases are healed. The testimonies of healing which are given every Wednesday evening at the testimony meetings of the Christian Science churches and societies prove this, and so do the testimonies which appear in the Christian Science periodicals over the signatures of those healed.

It is also said in the article that Peter healed the lame man in the name of the Lord, and this is called a contrast to the methods by which the healings are accomplished by Christian Scientists. But does such a contrast exist? Did not Jesus say, "He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also," and, "Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word"? Healing in Christian Science is accomplished on exactly the same basis as that of the disciples of our great Master. Mary Baker Eddy writes in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 243): "The divine Love, which made harmless the poisonous viper, which delivered men from the boiling oil, from the fiery furnace, from the jaws of the lion, can heal the sick in every age and triumph over sin and death. It crowned the demonstrations of Jesus with unsurpassed power and love. But the same 'Mind ... which was also in Christ Jesus' must always accompany the letter of Science in order to confirm and repeat the ancient demonstrations of prophets and apostles."
