Item of Interest
In several of the colleges and universities in the Field Christian Science Organizations have been formed, under the provisions of Article XXIII, Section 8, of the Manual of The Mother Church, by members of The Mother Church who are "members of the faculty, instructors, or students" in these institutions. To the young Christian Scientist leaving the shelter of home and family to enter upon new experiences and face new problems in the college world, the Christian Science Organization offers an opportunity for happy and helpful contact with other Christian Scientists in the same college.
A list of such organizations is given in The Christian Science Journal immediately following the directory of Christian Science churches and societies. The student of Christian Science about to enter an institution of higher learning will no doubt be interested to consult this list and ascertain whether there is a Christian Science Organization at the college of his choice, and if there is, will wish to give it his support and avail himself of the privileges as well as the advantages which association with the organization affords. Letters which have been received show that many who have been members of a Christian Science Organization at a college feel that their college experience has been enriched and made more helpful by participation in these activities. Some have stated that such participation has proved to be a good preparation for work in a branch church.
As to the benefits young students feel they derive from the interchange of testimonies regarding their problems, one member of a college organization writes: "... our meetings and our testimonies are really pertinent to us. They are the force which helps us understand what Mrs. Eddy has given us. When a student tells how he has met and overcome some problem it is of definite interest to us all, for his solution may also be ours, for the problems which face young people of college age are very characteristic, and the best solution for all of these problems is not the way our parents would solve them, but as we ourselves would solve them, now and not yesterday. Herein lies the value of Christian Science Organizations in our colleges and universities."
