Sussex Daily News
Though Christian Scientists respect the devotion and integrity in general of the medical profession—and this regard in many instances is reciprocated—there are verified cases aplenty of the permanent healing in Christian Science of cases regarded in medical practice as incurable.
The basis of Couéism is autosuggestion. Christian Science treatment is the opposite of this practice. On page xi of the Preface to the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, writes: "Many imagine that the Phenomena of physical healing in Christian Science present only a phase of the action of the human mind, which action in some unexplained way results in the cure of disease. On the contrary, Christian Science rationally explains that all other pathological methods are the fruits of human faith in matter,—faith in the workings, not of Spirit, but of the fleshly mind which must yield to Science."
Christian Science healing depends on our acceptance and understanding of the omnipresence and omnipotence of God. Christ Jesus declared to those Jews who believed on him, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." It is not recorded in Holy Writ that he ever recomended the drugs of the period.
