Fruitage

I ask myself at eventide,
What tribute do I bring
For gifts of peace, protection, love,
From Thee, my God and King?

Have I been kind to those I met
Today, in thought and deed,
And gracious to my brother man
When I beheld his need?

Or have I selfishly passed by
Upon the other side,
Leaving the blessed oil and wine
Unused and unapplied?

Grant me the vision, God, to see,
from day to day,
Man is at one with Truth and Love—
Thus walk the narrow way.

Then when a tribute Thou dost ask,
I can triumphant sing
Of victory over sin and death—
Love's fruit, my offering.
