The Lectures
Introductions to Lectures
Boston, Massachusetts (The Mother Church).
Lecturer: Adair Hickman; introduced by Miss Margaret Crawford, who said:—
"Mortals must find refuge in Truth in order to escape the error of these latter days." This statement by Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, in her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 83), brings a wonderful hope to humanity. It is of this refuge we are about to hear.
This is the same refuge that Christ Jesus was sent to proclaim, but the strange unwillingness of the people to accept his teaching presents a sad picture of lost opportunity. Luke tells how Jesus lamented over Jerusalem as he foresaw the outcome of its refusal: "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which killest the prophets, and stonest them that are sent unto thee; how often would I have gathered thy children together, as a hen doth gather her brood under her wings, and ye would not! Behold, your house is left unto you desolate." And later Jesus was to weep because that great city knew not the day of its visitation.
To the present age our heavenly Father has sent Christian Science with its comforting assurance of a refuge in Truth. This is the day of our visitation; let us not reject, but joyfully accept this great salvation.
