Sunday School Notes and Comments

The silent prayer in the Christian Science Sunday School is an important part of the order of exercises and one in which no child is too small to take part. Those old enough to understand how to pray for the Sunday school collectively may be taught Article VIII, Section 5, of the Church Manual, which will aid them in their prayer for the good of the Sunday school, while the smaller children can be taught to remain quiet in meditation with eyes closed. Such training will aid the children immensely in their experiences when the need arises to withdraw from matter to Spirit.

In teaching older pupils, one teacher found much help in following the question and answer method, formulating such questions as can be answered by the text itself, either from the Bible or from Science and Health. If the pupils do not recognize the fact that the question may be answered by the text, it is a simple matter to point out that a certain line or verse contains the answer, so that they soon learn to find their answers in this way.

In studying the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly during the week, this teacher works out at least one question from each citation, which helps her to have a clearer sense of the text. It is well to remember that when a question has been prepared and answered from the textbook, this is the answer of Truth to the world's queries about Christian Science; thus it has a universal meaning and helps the world. In this way we are learning how to give an answer to those who ask us concerning this most precious truth. (See Manual, Art. XX, Sect. 3.)
