Topic: Living Up To One's Ideals

[Earl L. Douglass, D. D., in the Trenton (New Jersey) State Gazette]

"Every man shall bear his own burden."—Galatians 6:5. This is one of the hardest realities in life to face. Much as we may desire to pass on responsibility to others, this must be regarded in large measure as sheer impossibility.

Many people grow resentful over their burdens, crying out to heaven and asking why those particular burdens are on their hearts. If something else had been sent, it could have been so easily borne, but this one thing crushes them to the earth and makes the day, and sometimes the night, a season of despair.
