Bible Notes

[The Biblical citations given in the Christian Science Quarterly are from the Authorized King James Version. The Bible Notes in this column can be used, if deemed necessary, to elucidate some of the words or passages contained in the Bible Lessons.]

"Therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee" (Jer. 31:3) — The Hebrew verb "mashak" (draw) can also mean "draw out," and so "prolong or continue." The Margin of the American Standard Version suggests: "Therefore have I continued lovingkindness unto thee;" while the Margin of the Authorized Version has: "Therefore have I extended lovingkindness unto thee."

"Early will I seek thee" (Ps. 63:1) — The verb which is here rendered "seek early" has the more literal meaning of "to look for dawn," and we may compare this sentence to the reference in Psalms 130:6 to those "that watch for the morning."
