Gethsemane

THE hour is come. Often these words would seem
To mark a culmination in our life—
The end or the beginning of a strife,
The sleep or the awakening of a dream.
Whatever be the working out, the stream
Of thoughts is halted while we pause to yield
Complete acceptance to the inevitable must,
Part with our plans, and take the way revealed.

So Jesus met his culminating hour
Alone with God, and to His will resigned
All earthly will, all earthly thought to Mind.
So, I can know God is the only power.
Then acquiescence adds its perfect sum:
Yes, Father, I too know the hour is come.
