"Created in righteousness"

THE one way to eradicate sin, sickness, and death is to take an undeviating stand for God as the only creator and spiritual man as the only man. Every student of Christian Science is called upon to denounce mortality and discord, for only so can he effectually identify himself with God as His likeness. This is the way of spiritual awakening and practical demonstration established in Christian Science. Now and forever spiritual man expresses in purity and completeness the perfection of God, the one Father-Mother. Omniscient divine Mind knows each one of its own perfect ideas, and each idea knows and expresses harmony and completeness throughout eternity. And eternity is now.

Opposed to this truth is the supposition of a material universe peopled with imperfect mortals. Paul therefore enjoined the Ephesians to put off "the old man" and "put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness." The righteousness of spiritual man is unwavering, unalterable; being "created in righteousness," he does not have to acquire it. Righteousness never having been taken from him or veiled from him, man is the ever-conscious expression of God's perfection. God, the only creator, has no unlikeness and no incomplete likeness.

What does steadfast acknowledgment of this fact do for the Christian Scientist? It reveals to him the ever-unfolding radiance of divine Love and frees him from the darkness of dogma. Supplanting personal sense with spiritual sense, it frees him from doubt and discouragement. Spiritual man represents the harmony of divine Principle, and his consciousness of real being, safeguarded by divine Principle, is subject to everlasting unfoldment.
