About twenty years ago my son and I were beautifully and quickly healed of a severe attack of Spanish influenza. We called a Christian Science practitioner, and though we were desperately ill for a few days, the fourth day we were both entirely free, without even a trace of weakness. This was marvelous to me, for I had been a graduate nurse, and had been taught that convalescence was an inevitable part of recovery. This healing was so complete that my son immediately asked for his roller skates and went out skating, while I went to the kitchen and prepared the dinner.
Mrs. Eddy states in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 269), "Metaphysics resolves things into thoughts, and exchanges the objects of sense for the ideas of Soul." About twelve years later this same boy was healed of a large carbuncle through Christian Science. One night his father said he would sit up with him, but about two o' clock he called me and said the child was alarmingly delirious, and wondered if I would object to his calling a physician. I replied that he should do what he felt was best, after which it was decided to wait until morning, when he found this was no longer necessary. Because so much fear was expressed, I stayed with the boy for the remainder of the night declaring the truth, and in the morning the fever had broken, and by noontime the carbuncle opened with an incision as straight as though it had been cut with a scalpel. This experience has been outstanding in my journey from sense to God.
Another definite proof of God's loving care came a few years ago. One Sunday afternoon I started down the stairs carrying a bureau drawer in one hand and a tennis racket in the other, and fell with terrific force from the top step down to the bottom, striking my head against the wall. The members of my family thought I had broken my collar bone. After assisting me to the davenport, they called a Christian Science practitioner. On Monday morning I was at my post of duty, and on Wednesday walked to church, entirely free.
