When I took up the study of Christian Science seventeen...
When I took up the study of Christian Science seventeen years ago, it was for the healing of osteoarthritis, which I had been told was incurable, and which had attacked me in my right arm and shoulder. I had tried all the remedies prescribed by our local doctor, and had gone into a Hydro for ten weeks, where every known material remedy was applied, but without success.
A Christian Science friend lent me some literature and assured me I could be healed by Christian Science. I was led to write to a practitioner listed in The Christian Science Journal, and asked for absent treatment. We exchanged letters daily, and in about a fortnight the full use of the arm was restored.
I should like to tell of a more recent experience. When I first began to attend the Christian Science services, seventeen years ago, I needed glasses to read the hymns and the Responsive Reading in the Christian Science Quarterly, and I continued to wear them for about twelve years. One day I dropped the case containing the glasses, and on opening it I found them broken. I was much distressed, because they were my only pair. Aloud I said, "What shall I do?" Very distinctly a voice seemed to say, Carry on! I picked up the paper I had been reading, and to my joy and amazement I found I could see better than when I used the glasses. I can now read any kind of print and written matter, and am able to do all our household mending. Words fail me to express my sincere gratitude for all the blessings I have received since taking up the study of Christian Science.—(Mrs.) Betsy Walker, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, England.
