Signs of the Times

Topic: Watchfulness in Our Lives

[Thomas Hastwell, in the Park County News, Livingston, Montana]

I have a friend whose society I always enjoy. It is a pleasure to sit and visit with him. There is an atmosphere, an air, an indefinable something about him that causes one to leave his presence with the feeling that, without seeking help or assurance, he has been helped and assured, and his faith in himself and in the ultimate supremacy of good strengthened. I have discovered the reason for this power that he possesses.

One day, while we were discussing the meaning and value of true religion or one's faith in God, he said: "I have a conviction that the God of the universe is directing my life, and that as long as I follow His direction I need have no fear but that all will be well with me. My responsibility consists of keeping myself in an attitude that His will can have its way in my life. I know that it is not God's plan to intrude His will forcibly into my life and command that I do this or not do that. His will is, and always has been, a quiet insistent force that directs men's lives if they will permit it. I discovered this long ago, and ever since have lived in a world undisturbed by fear or worry or apprehension. I know that as long as I do my part, God will do His." What a wonderful discovery this man has made, and what a wonderful thing it has done in his life! What it has done for him it can do for any man if he will do as this man has done.
