"The hill of Science"

[Written Especially for Children]

Jean awoke early and dressed quickly. It was the third day of her walking tour. Before starting out in the morning she usually read the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly, but on this day, as she was going to climb a mountain alone, fear suggested to her that she should leave before the sunshine beat down too fiercely.

Suddenly a Bible verse which she had once learned by heart came to her: "Ye shall not go out with haste, nor go by flight: for the Lord will go before you; and the God of Israel will be your rereward." Jean knew that this was an angel message telling her to wait and do the Lesson first. She obeyed, although a little reluctantly.

An hour later she was on her way. In her knapsack were her Bible and a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. All fear had left her, and she was glad she had waited. As she walked briskly up the narrow mountain path, she pondered a sentence she had just read (Science and Health, p. 38), "Jesus mapped out the path for others." She raised her eyes to the peak above. "All my way today is mapped out by divine Love," she thought happily.
