Christian Science was presented to me by a singing...
Christian Science was presented to me by a singing teacher at a summer music school. I joined her and other summer students in reading the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly. I wanted to understand God and Christ Jesus, and I welcomed the influx of Truth. Having been reared in an orthodox church and Sunday school, I had found myself questioning points of doctrine which I had been expected to believe.
In a few months I had my own copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. I studied this book diligently and with unbounded joy. It was as bread from heaven when I realized that God is Mind, and that Mind is all-knowing. Gaining a marvelous sense of freedom, I put aside eyeglasses, which I had been wearing since childhood. Other healings for which I am very grateful include those of sprained ankle, injured knee, coughs, colds, and discontentment. The sense of regeneration and unfoldment continues. I find these words on page 381 of Science and Health a great help: "Think less of the enactments of mortal mind, and you will sooner grasp man's God-given dominion."
I am very thankful to God for His manifold blessings to mankind, for the gift of His dear Son, Christ Jesus, and for the life and inspirational writings of the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy. I am most grateful for class instruction, for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church, in which I served as Reader, and for years of teaching in the Sunday school; also for the loving help of practitioners, who strive daily to bring freedom of thought and action to those who are in distress.
