Science is the systematized and exact knowledge of a given subject. With this definition before us, we use it regarding Christianity, and have in the world today Christian Science, which was discovered nearly seventy-five years ago by Mary Baker Eddy. Following a remarkable healing from what was considered a fatal injury, which healing was brought about by reading the Bible, Mrs. Eddy spent three years after her discovery, seeking to learn how God had healed her. She rightly concluded that her healing had not come to pass through chance or blind faith, but that her freedom had come from the operation of God's law, which must be knowable.

In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mrs. Eddy says (p. 109): "For three years after my discovery, I sought the solution of this problem of Mind-healing, searched the Scriptures and read little else, kept aloof from society, and devoted time and energies to discovering a positive rule." As a result of her prayerful research there appeared in 1875 the textbook of Christian Science, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," which gives an exact statement of this practical, provable religion—the religion of our Master brought so simply to human comprehension.

Christian Science is with us today to give to all who desire it a dependable, provable knowledge of Christ Jesus' teaching. Its purpose is to do good to mankind, but not in any way to take good from them. It is being recognized today that Christian Science is leavening with spiritual vision the lump of public, religious, and medical thought.
