Over sixteen years ago Christian Science came to me...
Over sixteen years ago Christian Science came to me when I was struggling with many physical problems. Mentally I was in a state of confusion. Fortunately there was a copy the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, in our home, and I started to read it. Soon afterwards I attended a Christian Science church service. Then I realized that I had found a practical and demonstrable Science, a religion that could give me spiritual understanding of God and man. Since then the Christ, Truth, has been my only physician and medicine.
When I became obedient and receptive to this truth, I found that "the effect of this Science is to stir the human mind to change of base, on which it may yield to the harmony of the divine Mind" (Science and Health, p. 162). I then discovered that headaches and stomach trouble had disappeared. What freedom to be able to eat the food that was set before me! In Matthew we read, "Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink." I have also been healed of heart trouble.
I am grateful to the practitioners and friends who have helped me. Their guidance and inspiration have always given me confidence and courage.
Freedom from the habit of using tobacco and intoxicants is something for which I cannot express enough gratitude. After becoming a student of Christian Science, I lost my desire for these false stimulants.
Some time ago it was my privilege to be at The Christian Science Benevolent Association Sanatorium in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, where I went for rest and study. My two weeks' stay there was most peaceful and harmonious, for I found the environment very congenial. I shall always remember the kindness and understanding of the associates. It was at this time that a finger, which had been out of joint for a number of years, became normal.
More recently I was healed of hay fever, an ailment to which I had been susceptible from time to time; also nervousness has been greatly overcome. With these present rewards for obedience to the teachings of Christian Science have come peace and harmony. Old fears are past and gone. Mrs. Eddy has wisely pointed out for us in our textbook, on page 411, "The procuring cause and foundation of all sickness is fear, ignorance, or sin."
The Reading Rooms have always been, and continue to be, a great help to me. I also wish to acknowledge my appreciation of all Mrs. Eddy's writings and of our periodicals. I am grateful for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church, and for the privilege of serving in some of its activities. Class instruction has prove to be most inspiring, and is enabling me to know that God has ample treasures of good for all His children.
