Harlingen, Texas (First Church).—First Church of Christ, Scientist, Harlingen, was dedicated at the morning service on Sunday, June 2, 1940, after being redecorated inside and out, and supplied with suitable draperies and floor coverings. The dedication of a Christian Science church is of special significance, for, according to an invariable rule, such an edifice cannot be dedicated until entirely free of debt.
Christian Science Society of Harlingen was organized in 1925. The site of the present church building was purchased in June of that year. The society was recognized as a branch of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, and on October 4, 1927, contracted for the erection of the present building. At the semiannual meeting in 1928, the members advanced another step, the membership having taken steps to become First Church of Christ, Scientist, of Harlingen, Texas.—La Feria News.
