With many others I, too, would lift up my voice to say...
With many others I, too, would lift up my voice to say with the Psalmist, "Unto thee, O God, do we give thanks: . . . for that thy name is near thy wondrous works declare." It has been my happy privilege to see many wonders wrought through the study and application of Christian Science, for I have had the opportunity of attending the Christian Science Sunday School and church since I was eleven years old. During these years many proofs of the healing power of divine Science have come into my experience.
Always a delicate child, I was out of school for one or two weeks every year with stomach trouble. There were also frequent attacks of sties, which brought much discomfort. After my mother began the study of Christian Science and I began attending the Sunday school, these troubles vanished. High school and college were completed without my missing one day because of illness.
Most of my college work was in the speech department. Although several times error argued that cold, sore throat, and loss of voice would keep me from taking my rightful part in the work, in every instance the difficulty was overcome by my knowing the truth as outlined by Mrs. Eddy in her writings, particularly by reading the textbook, Science and Health. The words "the voice of the Lord," which are used many times in the Bible, came to mean a great deal to me, for I knew that His voice is purely spiritual, and that, as the child of God, I had the privilege of exemplifying the qualities of Spirit at all times and under all conditions. Once during a bus trip home I was unable to speak above a whisper. Throughout the journey I tried to hold to the thought that God and His love are everywhere providing for the comfort of His children. My voice returned to normal the next day.
