Among the Churches

Current Notes

Downers Grove Reporter

Downers Grove, Illinois (First Church).—First Church of Christ, Scientist, of Downers Grove, held two dedication services in the church edifice on Sunday, May 19, 1940. The two services were identical. The subject of the Lesson-Sermon, from the Christian Science Quarterly, which was read at each service, was "Mortals and Immortals."

When a Christian Science church is dedicated, it indicates that all indebtedness on the church building has been canceled. A dedication statement was read at the services.

On November 12, 1902, a little group of Christian Scientists gathered in a private home in Gilbert Avenue and decided to organize a church in Downers Grove. Incorporation papers were filed in Wheaton on November 17, 1902.
