Sunday School Notes and Comments

A substitute Sunday school teacher was called upon one Sunday morning to teach an advanced class of boys. For a moment the teacher was tempted to believe that she was not well enough prepared to teach that particular class; but quickly the comforting assurance came to her that divine Mind was the source of all understanding, and that her work was to be obedient to Mind's directing.

Shortly after she had taken her place in the class, a question was asked about the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy. This gave the teacher the opportunity of using part of the lesson period to tell something of our Leader's unselfed work for humanity. A brief but careful summary of the establishing of the Christian Science movement was given to the class, and the definition of "Church," as it is stated in the Glossary of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy (p. 583), was carefully studied. Questions were asked by different members of the class, and the teacher was able to clear up certain misapprehensions about the beloved and consecrated Leader of the Christian Science movement.

Opportunity was also taken to point out to the class that Christian Science is based upon the Bible, and that Christ Jesus is our Way-shower. With his glorious example before us, and the teachings of Christian Science to elucidate his words and explain his works, it was shown that it is possible to "believe on the Lord Jesus Christ," to follow in his footsteps, and to carry out with increasing success his imperative yet loving commands to "preach the kingdom of God," and to "heal the sick."
