During a period of six or seven years I witnessed two remarkable healings of relatives who turned to Christian Science when medical methods failed them. But though I well knew that Christian Science had veritably wrought miracles before my eyes, medical treatment seemed satisfactory for my wife and me. However, we were agreed that should serious sickness threaten our little son, we would at once seek Christian Science treatment for him.
During an epidemic of infantile paralysis which caused great alarm in this community, our little son was taken sick. He exhibited the symptoms of this disease, and was obviously seriously ill. At the time it was a real comfort to feel assured that Christian Science could meet his need. I telephoned to the Christian Science practitioner who had successfully helped our relatives, and he came to our home about half past six in the evening. After a short talk with my wife and me, he asked to be left alone with the little one. When he departed, about an hour and a half later, there was a noticeable improvement in our son's condition. About eleven o'clock I reported progress to the practitioner, who promised to continue with absent treatment. Next morning I advised that improvement continued and by noon the boy was playing happily around the house—less than eighteen hours from the time Christian Science treatment was commenced.
To say that I am grateful for this healing scarcely conveys my feelings, for it was wonderful. Neither my wife nor I had studied Christian Science, but we were both sure that what had been done for my relatives could be done for our son. Mary Baker Eddy's gift to the world of Christian Science is indeed a tremendous blessing. Religion had never appealed to me previously. But Christian Science is practical, and the practitioner was so sure of God's goodness and ever-presence that I gained a new concept of religion. I am very grateful, indeed, for Christian Science.—Roderic M. Clarke, Launceston, Tasmania, Australia.
