Evil Predictions Refuted

Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, writes on page 149 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, "Since God, divine Mind, governs all, not partially but supremely, predicting disease does not dignify therapeutics." However, those without a knowledge of Christian Science, especially those who are medically minded, are sometimes inclined to predict the appearance of disease in circumstances which they believe are favorable to its origin and continuance. And at present some such persons are freely predicting that certain types of disease will surely follow in the wake of war.

Medical doctors believe themselves able to cope with some of these diseases, but others they freely admit are beyond their control. Such evil predictions have a deleterious effect upon those who do not understand the power of God, "who," as the Psalmist says, "forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies."

The predictions referred to above seem justified in the light of history. It would appear from the record of human events that disease, famine, and pestilence are the accompaniments and aftermath of war. But Christian Science helps one to see that past experience may not always be a basis for future expectancy, and that what has previously occurred may not necessarily be repeated.
