Many years ago Christian Science was presented to me,...
Many years ago Christian Science was presented to me, but at that time I was not interested and would not listen. The seed, however, must have been well sown, for in later life, when my health had failed and I felt that I had only a short time to live, I had a great longing to know something of Christian Science. So one Sunday evening found us in a Christian Science church. I did not understand the service, but I did understand the friendly atmosphere; and when we were invited to attend the Wednesday evening meeting and hear the testimonies of healing which Christian Science had accomplished, I was eager to go. I was surprised to see the large crowd and amazed to hear the men and women tell what Christian Science had done for them.
It was not long before we bought a copy of the textbook and a Christian Science Quarterly, got out our Bible, and started to study the Lesson-Sermons. I began to grasp some of the teaching, and much to the surprise of the doctor, I continued to live. Thanks to Christian Science, I was able to see my daughters grow to womanhood and later marry and go into homes of their own, where they have the privilege of using Christian Science to work out their daily problems.
In the thirty years since I attended that first service I have many times had to apply God's law as we learn it in Christian Science. And I feel grateful to the friend who planted the seed, regardless of my attitude of levity.
