"The flaming sword"

Does then the flaming sword still guard the way
That leads unto the blessed tree of life,
And must Truth's pilgrims seek with pain today
To reach that refuge from their woe and strife?

Ah, no! that sword of Love, the foe of sin,
Still holds the narrow path, but, never doubt,
'Tis not to bar true pilgrims' coming in,
Nay! it is only to keep error out.

Take heart then, earnest seeker, lift thy head,
Through Love the way lies open to that tree
Whose leaves, as once the gracious message said,
Shall for the healing of the nations be.

There shalt thou know all pain and sorrow cease,
And, drinking of Life's water, there find peace.
