"Mind is the natural stimulus"
Mrs. Eddy refers to perfect divine Mind as the basis for right thinking and acting. She states (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 420), "Mind is the natural stimulus of the body, but erroneous belief, taken at its best, is not promotive of health or happiness." What one understands of reality stimulates the thought in that direction, and in order to correct the beliefs of materialism it is essential that one's thought dwell on the true creation of Mind.
A knowledge of the spiritual universe and man gives to human thought the impetus for true spiritual attainment. The Psalmist saith, "Beautiful for situation, the joy of the whole earth, is mount Zion." Mrs. Eddy states the standard of students of Christian Science when she writes (ibid., p. 497), "As adherents of Truth, we take the inspired Word of the Bible as our sufficient guide to eternal Life."
Maintaining a right sense of creation is a question of subjugating the human will to the divine. Human will is contrary to the divine will, for it originates in the belief in a material creation, and must receive correction through an understanding of Truth. Christ Jesus declared his mission to be that of revealing and demonstrating the will of God. He said, "I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me." And he went on to explain what the effect of accepting his teachings would be to those who understood. "And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life." The Master proved that the surrender of the human will to the divine meant a willingness to apply an understanding of Truth to the experiences which came to him. For in this way only could he prove to a doubting world that the errors of material sense were unreal.
