Serenity

The quality of serenity is greatly admired and desired by all who are striving to bring more of peace, purity, and perfection into the daily round. That spiritual stability which steadfastly refuses to be disturbed by gusts of evil, no matter how sudden or severe, is truly founded on the rock, Christ, Truth.

At one time a Christian Scientist, who was confronted with a problem of unemployment, received much help and inspiration from her contemplation of two robins which had built their nest in a rose arbor near her window. When the rain fell and the winds blew, the arbor swayed in the storm, but the mother bird, calm and serene, protecting her young, kept them safely within their sheltered nook, and remained bravely at her post until the sun shone forth again.

Pondering the lesson presented by this picture, the student was forcefully reminded of the words of Mary Baker Eddy as found in the textbook of Christian Science, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 306), "Undisturbed amid the jarring testimony of the material senses, Science, still enthroned, is unfolding to mortals the immutable, harmonious, divine Principle,—is unfolding Life and the universe, ever present and eternal."
