Healing through Divine Reflection

In her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mrs. Eddy gives this wonderful description of man (p. 259): "In divine Science, man is the true image of God." Then she shows how Christ Jesus, the perfect healer, proved that fact through his understanding and demonstration of divine reflection. Her words are: "The divine nature was best expressed in Christ Jesus, who threw upon mortals the truer reflection of God and lifted their lives higher than their poor thought-models would allow,—thoughts which presented man as fallen, sick, sinning, and dying. The Christlike understanding of scientific being and divine healing includes a perfect Principle and idea,—perfect God and perfect man,—as the basis of thought and demonstration."

Because man, in divine Science, is the image of God, everything he sees and knows he can see and know only by reflection. In absolute being, everything apparent to individual consciousness is a reflection of some idea in the Mind which is God. Man sees his brother man as God sees him, because everything in the real man's consciousness appears exactly as it does in God's consciousness.

Christ Jesus expressed the divine nature. He understood God and man in such a degree that he could heal both the sick and the sinning. In other words, Jesus saw man as the likeness of God.
