"And caused them to understand"

Throughout the ages men have examined and adopted or discarded theories seeking for some method by which to improve their mode of living. Not until Mary Baker Eddy presented Christian Science to the world was a practical rule for living established, for her teachings have brought the Comforter or "Spirit of truth," as foretold by Christ Jesus. True, men had had faith in the coming of a better world, but to most this was only a hazy, Utopian, impractical concept.

Mrs. Eddy proved conclusively that as one understands the nature of God and man's relationship to Him, he has an inflexible rule by which to govern his thoughts and direct his daily affairs.

An expert appraiser can readily distinguish the difference between a valuable gem and an imperfect specimen. To the untrained eye, however, a mistake could easily be made in valuing the two. We must train ourselves to discern the difference between the perfect and the imperfect. Only through understanding the characteristics of spiritual perfection are we able to recognize it.
