When I first turned to Christian Science I was full of...
When I first turned to Christian Science I was full of despair. We had spent all we had on eye treatments—medical, electric, osteopathic, chiropractic—but the condition had grown worse until I was almost blind. I knew nothing of Christian Science, but located a practitioner and went to talk to her. I shall never forget the sense of peace and hope with which I left her office.
As she requested, we obtained a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy at the Reading Room. Since I could not see a word of it, my husband read to me night and morning. In three weeks I could distinguish a letter here and there on the page, and in two months I was able to read for myself. I then spent hours daily reading the Bible, the Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly, the periodicals, and Science and Health, and I read without fatigue. Gradually I took up my housework again and began to do much mending and plain sewing.
During this time asthma, hay fever, and constipation were also healed. This was over eleven years ago, and we have had no medicine in the house since. Our four healthy, happy children were born under Christian Science treatment with very harmonious conditions, although doctors had said such a thing was impossible. We have seen supply manifested when there seemed no visible source whatever. We have had healings of broken bones, boils, and blood poisoning. At the passing of a loved one we learned that the understanding of God as Life wipes all tears away.
