It was reported in the Post on March 13 that the Regius Professor of Physic at Cambridge University believes that present-day doctors have lost a powerful weapon by throwing away the magic arts of the physician of the past—the rod of Æsculapius—and that this accounts for the "loss of confidence in the medical profession which is seen on every hand today."

The professor avers also that Christian Science, as an unorthodox method of treatment, has the advantage of appealing to that appetite for magic which is so inherent in us. This statement may impose upon the public the erroneous impression that Christian Science is a kind of magic.

Christian Science is the Science of Christianity. The primitive Christian church for at least three centuries practiced divine healing. In the year 1866, Mary Baker Eddy discovered Christian Science and later organized "a church designed to commemorate the word and works of our Master, which should reinstate primitive Christianity and its lost element of healing" (Manual, p. 17).
