Prophecy

I

PROPHET in the wilderness,
King upon his throne;
Adulation for the king,
Prophet all unknown.

Prophet with a coat of hair,
King, with robe and crown;
Ten thousand subjects, loyally,
Build a royal town.

Prophet sheltered by a tree,
King with palace fine;
Ships bring tribute o'er the sea,
Vineyards yield him wine.

II

Vision to the prophet comes;
The king is dull with pride,
Old ways remain, old wrongs endure,
Injustices abide.

Hear the raptured prophecy,
Hear, O king, the voice:
Tear down, rebuild, make all things new,
Till all men may rejoice.

Kingly estate who now recalls?
The prophet hath renown;
Men tell of towers and prison walls
His prophecy shook down.
