Nearly thirty years ago, when theologians could not give...

Nearly thirty years ago, when theologians could not give me peace and physicians could give neither hope nor relief, Christian Science was brought to my notice. Although I was then a very young woman, life was such a heavy burden that I daily prayed to die. I had become morbid from much suffering. Physicians said I could never do much work, either mental or physical, and could live only by very tender care, and it would be years before I would be even comfortable.

Just through reading "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy I was cured of intestinal indigestion, dyspepsia, rheumatism, a nervous trouble of seven years' standing, and the need of glasses which I had worn for eight years. I also experienced painless childbirth. A case of pleurisy was overcome in twenty minutes. Once I had double pneumonia and a weak heart. Three weeks from the day I was taken ill, I traveled one hundred miles to my home and began light housekeeping. I felt so happy and rested that it seemed as if I had not been ill, but had just had a vacation.

A case of influenza was healed in three days. On the fourth day I did housework, comfortably and happily, till midnight. When my daughter was an infant she was healed of whooping cough in two weeks. She coughed only a little and that at night. A case of uremic poisoning was healed in three days. These are only a few of our many blessings. There have been other demonstrations that have taken time, study, and growth before completion.

For all these beautiful healings I am very grateful. It is refreshing to prove that sickness is not a part of God's plan. However, I treasure most the healing of some unlovely traits of disposition and a partial elimination of a wrong sense of self. It is so restful to know that there is nothing too large or too small to leave with God.

I also feel a deep gratitude for the remolding of my aims and desires. Science turns our thoughts away from worldly ambitions. I am grateful for church membership, class instruction, and every branch of the Christian Science organization. This truth is the one thing that can unify men and nations in one grand brotherhood. I am grateful for every opportunity to reflect this truth, for it is only by a life of devoted service that adequate gratitude can be expressed.
