[Written Especially for Children]

The other day a little girl was walking home from school, when another little girl rushed up to her exclaiming with interest and excitement, "Oh, Janet, when did you get back from South America?"

Now there were several things about this which were strange. In the first place the child addressed as Janet was actually Alice. Then, she had never been to South America in her whole life.

Still, just because her thoughts had been following a little adventure of their own, Alice looked at the newcomer for a moment without saying a word. She even wondered for an instant whether her name were "Janet," and whether she actually had been on a journey. It did not take many seconds, however, for her to recover.
