Early in my experience in Christian Science, in fact before...

Early in my experience in Christian Science, in fact before I knew about the Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly, I was healed of the necessity for wearing glasses which had been worn for twenty years. This healing came while I was reading the chapter on Fruitage in "Sciecen and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I am very grateful for this healing, for I had been told many times that, because of hereditary eye weakness, I should always have to wear glasses. It has now been more than twelve years since this healing took place, and it has been permanent. Severe headaches, which were associated with the wearing of glasses, have also been overcome by the understanding received through the study of the spiritual truths taught in Christian Science.

Another and more important reason for gratitude for this healing is that through this experience I was led to go on in the study of this truth which is constantly freeing mankind from all manner of ills and false beliefs. Mrs. Eddy has written in Science and Health (pp. 476, 477): "Jesus beheld in Science the perfect man, who appeared to him where sinning mortal man appears to mortals. In this perfect man the Saviour saw God's own likeness, and this correct view of man healed the sick." Many times when the truth in this statement was realized and utilized it brought healing to members of our family of six.

About seven years ago our eldest boy, who was then three years old, caught his hand in the wringer of an electric washing machine. I was out of the room at the moment but reached him soon after I heard him scream. I immediately knew that God's idea could not be touched by any material thing and that that idea remained free and untouched in spite of the material sense testimony. The boy's arm had been drawn into the wringer up to the elbow and was in such a position as to prevent use of the device for releasing the two rollers. It was necessary to reverse the machine and withdraw the arm in the same manner in which it had entered the rollers. This was done in a very short time. The healing was completed in a week, and the greater part of that time he was free to play, with very little inconvenience. The singing of our Leader's hymn, beginning, "Shepherd, show me how to go" (Poems, p. 14), was of great help in this experience. I am always grateful for the simplicity of this song, for even the smallest child can understand the Shepherd's loving care for His little ones.
