When I was a very small child my mother was completely...
When I was a very small child my mother was completely healed, through Christian Science, of an illness which doctors had pronounced incurable. They had told her she would probably never walk again. Through this wonderful healing she began an earnest study of Christian Science. During the following years I felt the loving influence of something greater than ordinary benefits, but I never bothered to find out what this was. I always told my mother when I felt ill or when anything was wrong, and was quickly healed. I but vaguely realized that Christian Science was responsible for these healings. When I grew older we moved to a town in which there was a Christian Science Society. For the first time I began to attend church. Although I did not have a sincere interest in Christian Science, I felt that it was the truth and that if I ever needed it I should use it.
Then, while still quite young, I married, very much against my parents' best judgment. They felt that I was entirely too young, my schooling was not complete, and my husband was young and unprepared to support a wife. We had to live in a little town many miles from my parents' home, and things looked very dark. After some time, during which many tears were shed and I despaired of ever being happy, I began to think of Christian Science. My mother had given me a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," and I now began to read it a great deal, and soon realized that I had found the "pearl of great price." In a short time we moved back to our former home and things began to be a great deal more harmonious. This time I eagerly attended all Christian Science services and studied the textbook with the Bible diligently. I soon felt the desire to apply for membership in The Mother Church and the society in that locality, but felt that I could not honestly apply as I was a habitual smoker and had been so for about two years. I earnestly desired to be rid of this habit, and shortly afterward I was freed from it overnight while a practitioner was giving me Christian Science treatment for a physical ailment.
I am so grateful for this and for healings which I have had of the following: tonsillitis, warts, influenza, abscessed ear, severe headaches accompanied by nausea, colds, and other minor ailments. I am also very grateful for the guidance we have had in business affairs. For several months I was enabled to hold with ease a position for which I had had no training. Through the application of Christian Science, steady employment and even business advancement have come to my husband. I rejoice in the harmony in our home.
