Loyalty

Among the synonyms for loyalty are fidelity, faithfulness, allegiance, and constancy. True loyalty is associated in our thoughts with that which is good. Since it is good, it must be inspired of God, who is good, and encompasses all that is good. To spiritual sense, there is naught but good. God, being just, could not create anything that is not good. Christ Jesus gave instructions in loyalty to the lawyer when he said: "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself." There could be no disloyalty if one adhered to this wise counsel. Since loyalty such as this is a good quality, it should be cultivated by all mankind.

Unselfishness, courage, humility, patience, charity, and love are closely related to loyalty. Indeed, it is impossible to conceive of their being divorced. One cannot designate as loyal the thought of an individual who voices or gives ear to hurtful criticism of a friend, or a cause which he is supposed to support.

One would not wish to be guilty of expending a false loyalty on a belief that two times two is five. The student of Christian Science discovers that the basis of all that really exists is Spirit, God. He finds that the reasoning which has only a material foundation will sooner or later reach a point where there is uncertainty. Here, if he will accept Christian Science, his thought will be lifted to the spiritual realm, and his vision will stretch out to discover that God, infinite Mind, is All-in-all. From this exalted spiritual point of view, he will learn that loyalty to God, Truth, Principle, as revealed in Christian Science, is fundamental to all expressions of loyalty.
