Some years ago when, according to mortal belief, I was in insurmountable trouble, I was willing to turn to Christian Science. This Science of Christ was known to me, because my wife was interested in it. My first experience after asking for treatment was a sense of peace and rest. I started to study Science and Health and the Lesson-Sermon from the Christian Science Quarterly, and later to attend the services. Since that time I have hardly missed a service. Still there were many difficulties to be overcome. I was forced to learn the utmost meekness and to do the will of our Father. This lesson of meekness is the blessing for which I am most grateful, as it is one of the most important things to learn. Seeing that increased consecrated work is necessary for our progress, I am devoting more and more time to studying this Science.
The moment came when I found myself without employment; but I studied earnestly, found loving help, and soon a way opened for work. Although I had always thought that this kind of work was the most difficult and unpleasant I could imagine, I was now able to perform my duties with joy and courage. My work proved to be successful, and within a year after turning to Christian Science I was able to make a living for my family.
A practitioner taught me by word and example how to make the two commandments—to love God with all my heart, and my neighbor as myself—practicable. From the moment that I understood man as divine idea, and that we can know the truth about everything and everybody, daily life has entirely changed for me. All problems in education, teaching pupils, relations with others, and business negotiations have been solved.
