In my childhood I had been under the care of physicians almost constantly, suffering from some ailment, and my life seemed a big burden to me and to my dear ones. When several friends suggested that a change of climate would be of great benefit, and that I come with them to America, my parents consented to let me go. So I left Vienna, and after I arrived here my health seemed improved, but I did not find conditions as beautiful and rosy as had been described to me. I had to work very hard, for long hours, and never got enough to eat, so that eventually I had a complete nervous breakdown.

It was a wretched state, mental and physical, in which I suffered from insomnia, fallen stomach, headaches, constipation, and other discordant conditions. My friends dropped away one by one, until I had no one to whom to turn. I would not let my dear ones in Austria know about my plight, but wondered of what earthly use my existence really was. However, I prayed to God to help me, as my dear father at home had always told me that God does not forsake those who do not forsake Him. Finally I was led to Christian Science by a newly found friend, to whom I eagerly listened, fairly drinking in the truth as she related to me some of the marvelous proofs of healing she had seen.

Gradually I grasped that wonderful revelation of our heavenly Father-Mother God, and of man's oneness with Him, as given by our beloved Leader. When I purchased the Bible and "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" I was very happy to be the possessor of such treasures. As I studied their contents and began to realize the truth of God's ever-availability, His ever-presence and goodness, and of man as God's spiritual idea, then love, harmony, and spiritual understanding gradually dispelled all pain and discord. I could not even remember when the healings took place, but I knew that I was free! A transformation of the body was being effected by the renewing of the mind, in accordance with Paul's words in Romans, and all things were becoming new. I began really to live, and knew the reason for it.
