Organization
One morning a small structure in a city had caught fire; but the firemen arrived so promptly and worked so quickly and effectively that the flames were subdued almost immediately. A student of Christian Science walked away from the scene pondering the word "organization." The effective working of that organized fire brigade had set him thinking. What did organization stand for? What was the thought back of it?
Organization calls into play coordination, cooperation, promptness, efficiency, and the submergence of self-will for the general good. It calls for teamwork, all pulling together at the same time. In the light of this analysis it was not to be wondered at that, on this occasion, organization was effective in bringing about good results and in preventing or removing evil results.
Then thought went back some fifty years or more, to the time when Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, saw the value of organization as a means for spreading spiritual truth. Had not our Leader organized the Christian Science church and later under divine guidance reorganized it? Behold the wonderful results today, The Mother Church with world-wide branches, the Publishing Society sending forth a stream of healing literature, teachers, practitioners, students, a Board of Lectureship, Sanatoriums, Committees on Publication, and Reading Rooms encircling the globe—organization, indeed, governed by the Manual of The Mother Church, with its impersonal By-Laws and Rules!
